Barbara Ann Corcoran

            Barbara Ann Corcoran (born March 10, 1949) is an American businesswoman, investor and speaker. She is also a consultant, speaker writer, syndicated columnist, television host, and author. She founded The Corcoran Group, a real estate brokerage located in New York City, which she sold to NRT for $66 million in 2001 and shortly thereafter exited the company. Corcoran is one of ABC’s original Shark Tank investors. To date she has appeared in every 12 season of Shark Tank. In February of 2020, she had signed 53 deals. The largest of these was a $350,000 investment to Coverplay at 40 percent. Corcoran, who was the second of 10 children from a working-class Irish-Catholic family was born in Edgewater in New Jersey. Florence, Corcoran's mother, was a housewife. Edwin W. Corcoran Jr. was her father during Corcoran's childhood. Sometimes, the family relied on deliveries of food for free from a local grocer. Corcoran recalls her father being an alcohol-dependent drunkard who often treated her mother with condescension and disrespect, especially after having consumed alcohol. Corcoran struggled at school, and eventually discovered that she was dyslexic. Corcoran attended an Catholic elementary school in her community and began the high school year at St. Cecilia High School, Englewood. Corcoran was proficient in several classes during her first year. She transferred to Leonia High School and graduated with a D.
